Sectional Schedules

These are the current sectional schedules. The first is for students in Symphonic and Concert Band that are not participating in All Region Auditions. The second is for Honor Band students and people in Symphonic and Concert that are participating.

Before we get going, make sure you read our new handbook and bring back the signature page signed by both you and your parent/guardian.

Upcoming Events!

Hello Piner Bearcat Band Families!

The next few weeks will see some important things that are a bit too much to send in a Remind, so here is a brief update with upcoming items and activities!

Percussion Concert, February 22:

  • Location – SHS Auditorium
  • Attire – Black
  • Percussion Students should arrive at 4pm for warm-up.
  • Concert Begins at 7pm.
  • This is a graded event for percussion students.
  • Concert is FREE and we would love to have all of the Piner Band students there.

UIL Benchmark Assessment 1, February 26:

  • Location – SHS Auditorium
  • Attire – Formal Concert Black
  •                 Concert Band Warm-up Begins at 6pm
  •                 Symphonic Band Warm-up Begins at 6:30pm
  •                 Honors Band Warm-up Begins at 7pm
  • Performances – 6:30, 7:00, 7:30
  • This is a graded event for all students in Honors, Symphonic and Concert.

Pasta Dinner Concert, March 1:

  • Location – SHS Cafeteria
  • Attire – Formal Concert Black
  •                 Concert Band Warm-up Begins 5:30
  •                 Symphonic Band Warm-up Begins 6:00
  •                 Honors Band Warm-up Begins 7:00
  • Performances – 6:00, 6:30, 7:00
  • This is a graded event for all students in Honors, Symphonic and Concert.
  • Dinner tickets are optional and available for $ 7. Proceeds support your band students!

Band on the Run 5K, March 2:

  • Location – Outside Piner
  • Sign In – 7-7:45am
  • Mini –K Fun Run – 8am
  • 5K Run – 8:30am
  • Online Registration – secure.getmeregistered.com
  • Live Registration – held during the Pasta Dinner

Jazz Band Performance, March 7:

  • Location – Knight Furniture
  • Set-Up – 6pm
  • Perform – 6:30-6:45pm
  • Attire – Band Shirt and Jeans
  • A portion of proceeds that day will be given to the Piner Band! So if you’ve been needing some new furniture that would be a really great day.

Final UIL Benchmark Assessment, March 21:

  • Location – Scott MS, Denison
  • Attire – Formal Concert Black
  • Performance times will be announced as we get closer to the date. Expect any time after 5pm. Six bands will be performing throughout the night, and we want to make sure no one is playing late into the night.
  • This is a graded event for all students in Honors, Symphonic and Concert.
  • UIL Formal Concert and Sight-reading Assessment, March 26 & 27:
  • Location – Wylie East HS (transportation will be provided for students)
  • Attire – Formal Concert Black
  • March 26 – Concert and Symphonic Bands
  • March 27 – Honors Band
  • Times – Will be announced by UIL on a future date.
  • This is a graded event for all students in Concert, Symphonic and Honors
  • Parents are encouraged to attend if available.

Future Other Dates(more info to come in the future):

  • April 18 – Registration/Payment Deadline for Solo & Ensemble (All students playing for a judge)
  • April 22 – Tentative Honors Band Recording Concert, Grayson College (Honors)
  • April 24 – Beach Within Reach Band Festival Performance, Haltom City (Honors/Symphonic)
  • April 27 – Hurricane Harbor Trip (All Students, optional)
  • May 2 – Final Concert (All Students, Graded)
  • May 6-10 – Band Interviews for 2019-2020 Bearcat Bands (6-11)
  • May 11 – Solo & Ensemble Festival

The students are working very hard in preparation for their UIL Assessments.We hope that you are hearing them playing their music and talking to them about how their SmartMusic Assignments are going. Remember that we will reassign anything that is not 100% if it was turned in on time for the first turn in. We are also reassigning even if it was late, but it isn’t up to 90% (the late grade). We encourage everyone to keep turning them in until they are mastered. A 95% with 70 people in a music classroom, doesn’t represent in sound what a 70% looks like in any other class. For our students to achieve at the TEXAS level of expectation it takes a team of people aiming for flawlessness.

Thank you again for always makings sure your band member attends their section rehearsal, has all of their supplies and is working to their potential from home. You are a vital part of the team success!

Piner Night Info

The Piner Bearcat Band is ready for our next performance, and we want to make sure you have all of the info you need to make this a success.

Piner Night with the SHS Band is this Friday, September 28. Dress will be – band shirt, blue jeans, and sneakers.

Here’s the schedule:

5:00pm – Meet on the Piner football practice field for dinner with the SHS Band, provided (free)
5:45pm – Head into the Piner Band Hall and get equipment ready for the game
6:15pm – March into Bearcat Stadium with the SHS Band
7:00pm – Kick off! Go Bearcats!
Approx 9:00pm – Piner Band is dismissed at the end of the 3rd Quarter.

As usual, after we leave the stadium, parents have 15 minutes to come and pick up their musicians from the band hall (a Remind Message will be sent as we leave the stands). If students would like to go back to the game, they’re more than welcome to head back. Their band shirt will be their ticket back in.

We will play in the stands with the high school band, and when the high school students go down from the stands to warm up for half time, we’ll play to keep up the excitement! We’ll also watch both half times from the stands; we want to cheer on the Bearcat Band during their 2nd full performance of Utopia, their 2018 marching show.

Students are again encouraged to bring water. We will not take a trip to the concession stand. Only water is allowed in the band area out of respect for the instruments.

Piner Football Game Info!

We have 1 week until our first performance at the Piner 8th Grade Football game on 9/18 (Tuesday). Here’s some information for parents – the students have all got this in class, but we wanted to make sure you had it too!

Equipment

Every band student will need a music flip folder. An example of one can be found here on Amazon. This supply is also available at local music stores, such as Saeid Music in Sherman, or Music and Arts in Allen or Frisco.

Stores may have a limited supply, as many band students are trying to get them right now. They were part of the original supply list for the year, so if you already purchased one for your student, you’re good to go!

Students who play clarinet, sax, trumpet, horn, and trombone will also need a lyre. This is what attaches the flip folder to the instrument so we can read music without holding it. Example from Amazon are:

These are also available from the music stores listed above.

Note: Trumpet and Trombone students can opt for combination flip folder/lyres such as these. If you buy these, you do not need to buy a lyre.

Uniform

Piner Bearcat Band uniform for the game is as follows:

  • Piner Band shirt
  • Blue jeans
  • Athletic shoes

The Piner Band shirt is paid for through the Band Fee of $25 paid for the year. If you have not paid the Band Fee yet, or have not talked to the directors to arrange a payment plan, please make sure you do so as soon as possible!

Schedule

The Band Hall will close immediately after school – students are not allowed to stay after until the meeting time. They must leave campus.

  • 5:00pm – Meet at Piner Band Hall in uniform
  • 5:30pm – Walk to stadium and sit in stands
  • 8:30pm – Approximate end of performance (depending on game time)

We will send a remind message out to all parents as we’re heading back to the band hall. Students are dismissed once they bring their equipment back to the Band Hall.

As per the Piner Band Handbook, students must be picked up within 15 minutes of the end of the performance. If students want to go watch the rest of the game ( we will leave at the end of the 1st half of the A team game), they are allowed to head back to the stadium on their own.

The Band Hall will be closed 15 minutes after the end of the performance.

Summer Schedule!

Piner Bearcat Band will be up and running from Wednesday, August 1st to Friday, August 3rd! All 7th and 8th grade Bearcat Band members are welcome to come and join us for summer camp.

We’ll pass out music and get a start to our new year! All you need is your instrument and whatever you need to play it (reeds, mouthpiece, sticks, etc.).

The schedule is –

  • 8/1 – 1pm – 4pm
  • 8/2 – 1pm – 4pm
  • 8/3 – 1pm – 4pm
