Solo Contest

The annual Piner Solo Contest is coming up this Saturday, January 24. Each student should already have their performance time; if you need to see you students’, they can be found here.

Students should arrive at Sherman HS at least 20 minutes before their scheduled performance time. Instrument cases can be brought into the SHS Band Hall, which will also be our warm up area. Parents can wait in the warm up area if they’d like.

After warming up, students should go to their posted room approximately 5 minutes before their performance. Please remember which judge you have.  Room directions will be listed by judge.

When their performance is done, they have the option of leaving immediately, or they can wait for their results. Results should be posted within 30 minutes of their performance. All judges comments and medals/ribbons will be passed out next week at school.

Students should dress nicely for this event, as they are performing for professional musicians.  This should be a step up from their day-to-day wear. If they are in doubt, wearing their concert black outfit from the previous concerts is a good choice.

Honors Band

Honors Band will have their usual after school rehearsal on Wednesday, from 3:15-4:15. Please make plans to attend. Attendance is mandatory.

Sherman HS Auditorium Rehearsals

On February 4th and March 4th, the Honors and Symphonic Bands of Piner MS will have the opportunity to rehearse on the Sherman HS Auditorium Stage. These rehearsals are very important, as this is an opportunity to rehearse on a stage that is similar to our contest stage.

The schedule will be as follows:

  • Symphonic Band – 4pm – 5pm
  • Honors Band – 5:15pm – 6:15pm

We will serve pizza to both bands between 5 – 5:15.

Students should make arrangements to be at both rehearsals. Plan to arrive at least 15 minutes before the start of rehearsal to get situated so that we can begin on time. There will be no excused absences. Emergencies will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis.

During the February rehearsal, we will have two guest clinicians come in and listen to our groups and help with our sound and balance.
