Our fall concert is coming up on Monday, October 27th. It will take place in the Piner Gym at 7pm – we encourage all parents and family members to attend! The concert will last until approximately 8:00pm, and students are required to stay until the end of the concert.
Here are the times for Monday:
- 6:30 pm – Beginner, Concert, and Varsity Bands report to the Gym with their instruments
- 6:45pm – Symphonic Band reports to the Band Hall with their instruments
- 6:45pm – Honors Band reports to the Gym (back bleachers) with their instruments
- 7:00pm – Concert begins
Dress – Students can either wear a school-appropriate costume to the concert, or their informal band uniform (band shirt, jeans, sneakers).
Honors Band Rehearsals
Reminder that along with sectionals, members of Honors Band have a weekly full band rehearsal from 3:15pm – 4:15pm on Wednesdays. Attendance is mandatory, and any absences must be discussed in advance with Mr. Anderson.
Select members of Honors Band have been chosen to audition for the Region 25 All-Region Middle School Band. A list of members selected can be found here.
On November 8, these students will head to Allen High School in Allen, TX to compete against the best middle school musicians from Plano, McKinney, Denison, and other area schools. Those who place high enough will get to participate in the All-Region Middle School clinic and concert December 12-13.
Audition times and travel arrangements will be given to the kids as soon as we have them.
Encourage these students to practice as much as possible at home in preparation for the audition, especially in front of friends and family. Nerves can be trouble, and the more performance opportunities they get, the better off they’ll be!
Friday, October 24th is the end of the First Nine Weeks grading period. After Friday, any student who is failing one or more classes will be ineligible for participation in extracurricular competitions (though not rehearsals and concerts). We have looked at grades and talked with students who are failing, but we ask that you do the same.
The Piner Band directors understand that academics are the most important part of school, and we do everything in our power to help your children not just pass, but excel at what they do. Passing classes in the First Nine Weeks lets the directors know which students we can rely on through the rest of the year, especially around contest time. High school directors also keep track of how students perform in middle school for the same reasons.
