Thanks to everyone that made our Six Flags trip a success! The students were well behaved, and we made it to Arlington and back in one piece. The kids had a great time, rode some crazy rides, and were mostly passed out on the way back. Truly, the sign of a great band trip.
And now, coming up…
The Piner Band Spring Concert is on Thursday, May 15th in the Sherman High School Auditorium. The concert will begin at 7pm, but the bands should begin arriving at the following times:
- Concert Band: 6:30pm, on the SHS Stage
- Sym II: 6:30pm, in the SHS Band Hall
- Sym I: 6:45pm, in the SHS Auditorium
Students should arrive with their instruments out of their cases, except for the larger instruments (bari sax, tuba, etc.). All students will sit and watch the groups after them, so students and parents should make arrangements to enjoy the entire concert. The program should be over at 7:45pm.
As a reminder, this is our costume concert, so students are allowed to wear either their concert black or a costume of their choice, provided it complies with school dress codes. If they have a question about their choice, they can talk to the band directors before Thursday.
Because of scheduling at Piner Middle School, we are having two after school rehearsals for Concert Band and Beginner Band this week. These will take place on Monday, May 12th and Thursday, May 15th from 3:15pm – 4:15pm in the Piner Band Hall.
As this is our only opportunity to rehearse all of the classes together, all students must attend. After the Thursday rehearsal, Concert Band musicians will go home, and then meet back at 6:30pm at Sherman High School for the concert.
In the next two weeks, over 400 students will audition for placement in one of the musical ensembles at Piner Middle School or Sherman High School. It’s important that your young musician know exactly when their audition is.
Piner Middle School auditions will begin on Monday, May 19th. These are auditions are for those attending Piner Middle School next year, including current Dillingham beginners at Piner 7th graders. Auditions include a prepared piece of music, two scales to be picked the week of the auditions, and sightreading. Each student will be recorded and evaluated by the directors.

7th graders will have help sessions available on Wednesday from 3:15-4:15.
Sherman High School auditions will begin on Monday, May 12th. These auditions are for those attending Sherman High School next year, including current 8th graders. Auditions include two prepared pieces of music. Each student will be recorded and evaluated by the directors.
Sherman High School Marching Band Schedule
The directors at Sherman HS have asked that remind parents about the upcoming schedule for marching band activities in preparation for next year. These events are for current 8th graders who will be a part of the Sherman High School Marching Band next year.
On May 27, 28, and 29, the SHS Band will have music rehearsals after school from 3:30pm – 5:30pm in the SHS Band Hall. All members should make plans to attend. Music for the 2014-2015 show will be given out and worked on.
The SHS Fish Camp for incoming freshman will be on May 31, June 6, and June 9 from 8am – noon. This will cover marching fundamentals, and as such, will take place outside. Students should except hot weather and come prepared with a large water bottle, sun screen, a hat, and warm weather clothing.
